AUBURN – Forward Ben Hartnett headed in a cross pass from Shea Flynn with just over 5 minutes remaining to allow Edward Little to slip past Leavitt with a 2-1 victory in boys’ KVAC soccer action Thursday.
Flynn intercepted a Leavitt pass and marched downfield to get in position for Hartnett’s goal.
The senior’s score reached the back of the net via the top left hand corner.
Leavitt outshot Edward Little 16-8 and grabbed the early lead with a first-half goal from Matt Paladino, assisted by Nathaniel Jacobs, giving the Hornets a 1-0 halftime edge. Ethan Grund evened the score in the second half on a penalty kick for the Red Eddies (3-0-1).
Zach Caldwell made six saves in net for Leavitt while counterpart Josh Mains turned away 13 in the victory.
Messalon. 3, Mt. Blue 2
FARMINGTON – Matt DelGiudice broke a 2-2 tie with goal off a direct kick with 26 seconds as Messalonskee booted Mt. Blue with a 3-2 victory in boys’ soccer Thursday.
Mt. Blue’s Zach Conlogue scored a pair of first-half goals, both coming off assists from junior Jamie Sawyer. Cam Olmsberg and Cam Douglas each tallied scores for Messalonskee (4-1) also in the first half.
Mt. Blue (3-2) goalie Devon Zamboni made 10 saves in net.
Cony 2, Lewiston 1
AUGUSTA – Joe Gagnon registered the game-winning goal at 34:04 on a breakaway to give Cony a 2-1 win over Lewiston in a KVAC boys’ soccer matchup Thursday.
Lewiston got on the board first with an unassisted goal by Abdijabar Hirsi, who fired a shot from outside the 18-yard mark. Justin Genest of Cony tied it after a penalty kick was awarded due to a hand ball, before Gagnon’s goal in the second half.
Lewiston held the advantage in shots, 15-4, and in corners 3-1. Alex Wong made two saves for the Blue Devils.
