LEWISTON – Abby Childs scored three goals in the second half to propel Bates College to a 5-4 victory over Amherst in NESCAC field hockey action Saturday.

Childs scored her first career hat trick in the 59th minute, extending the Bobcat (3-0-1) lead to 5-3.

Southern Maine 3, W. Connecticut 1

DANBURY, Conn. – Junior defender Missy Rivet of Bridgton scored her first goal as a Husky on an assist from Cristina Corson for the game-winner as Southern Maine tipped Western Connecticut State, 3-1, in women’s soccer action Saturday.

Huskies’ (4-1) sophomore goalkeeper Allie Hill made five saves to earn the win.

Bowdoin 4, Colby 0

BRUNSWICK – Julia King and Lindsay McNamara scored a pair of goals apiece as Bowdoin cruised to a 4-0 win over Colby in women’s soccer action Saturday.

King ripped a shot from the top of the circle off a penalty corner to make it 3-0 at the break, and repeated the feat early in the second half.

St. Joseph’s 4, Husson 3 (OT)

STANDISH – Courtney Rague drilled a pass from Maria Arsenault into the back of the net in the sudden-death frame as St. Joseph’s capped a 4-3 victory over Husson on Saturday.

The Monks (4-1) got on the board eight minutes into play as Arsenault connected for one of her two game goals, and senior captain Darcy Ward followed less than two minutes later with a goal off a pass from junior captain Gina Gaetani of Auburn for an early 2-0 lead.

Maine 2, Brown 0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kim MacDonald tallied the game-winner as the University of Maine tucked away a 2-0 victory over Brown University in field hockey action Saturday.

The Black Bears (2-4) took a 2-0 lead at the half on an unassisted goal from Erin Reusch.

Goalie Rebecca Giroux earned the win with a pair of saves for Maine.

Women’s soccer
Amherst 1, Bates 0

LEWISTON – Sophomore Meg Murphy scored in the sixth minute and Amherst College held on for a 1-0 victory over Bates College in NESCAC women’s soccer action Saturday.

Senior goalie Nini Spalding made three saves for the Bobcats (1-2), while sophomore Lili Ferguson earned the shutout the three saves for Amherst.

Bowdoin 5, Colby 2

BRUNSWICK – Dana Rike and Alison Chase scored two goals apiece to lead Bowdoin to a 5-2 victory over Colby in women’s soccer action Saturday.

Chase got things going for the Polar Bears (3-0) just minutes into the rainy contest when she lofted a shot that slipped into the net just under the upper post.

Kat Popoff stopped eight shots in goal for Bowdoin, while Loni Pisani made 11 saves between the pipes for the Mules (1-2) in the loss.

Keene State 7, Southern Maine 2

KEENE, N.H. – Kathleen Keniston finished with two goals and three assists to lead Keene State College to a 7-2 LEC women’s soccer victory over the University of Southern Maine on Saturday.

Senior forward Natasha Levandowski scored a goal in the second half and assisted on junior forward Caitlin Brown’s first half goal for the Huskies (2-3) in the losing effort.

St. Joseph’s 2, Emerson 1

BOSTON, Mass. – Mikayla Call scored two second half goals to lead St. Joseph’s College to a 2-1 triumph over Emerson College in women’s soccer action Saturday.

Call drilled a shot from the right side to the lower left corner from 15 yards out in the 53rd minute.

Call scored again 13 minutes later off a scramble in front of the net following a corner kick for the Monks (5-0).

Men’s soccer
Bowdoin 2, Colby 1

BRUNSWICK – Nick Figueiredo scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining as Bowdoin took a 2-1 victory over rival Colby in men’s soccer action Saturday.

Figueiredo received a through-pass from Luke Welch in the 86th minute, beat his defender and drew the Mule’s (1-1-1) goalie Dan Marden out of position. He one-touched a shot from the right side of the box into the net to clinch the win.

Amherst 3, Bates 0

LEWISTON – Taylor Downs recorded a goal and two assists to lead Amherst to a 3-0 blanking of Bates College in men’s soccer action Saturday.

Senior Kevin Dolan struck first for the Lord Jeffs (4-0), taking a relay from Downs before settling the ball and lining a shot from outside the penalty area.

Southern Maine 1, Keene State 0

GORHAM – Junior Sinisa Bajic scored the only goal of the match just 16 seconds into the second half to give the University of Southern Maine a 1-0 victory over Keene State College in LEC men’s soccer action Saturday.

Bajic netted his sixth goal of the season for the Huskies (4-1-1) after a great individual effort by junior Greg Cox.

Football
Husson 44, Norwich 0

BANGOR – Husson moved to 3-0 on the season for the first time in the program’s five-year history with a 44-0 triumph over Norwich University.

Running back Julius Williams led the Eagles with 120 yards on 18 carries and a pair of touchdowns.

Quarterback Jonah Chappell of Fryeburg was 19-of-31 for 195 yards and two touchdown passes.
