NEWPORT – Nick Brown stuffed a Nokomis runner just shy of the goal line on a two-point conversion attempt with under a minute left and Oak Hill held on for a 13-12 win in PTC Class B football action Saturday.

Brown scored on a 38-yard run to give the Raiders (1-2) a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Kamar Banton made it 13-0 with a three-yard TD run after Adam Hathorne blocked a punt and Caleb Fournier recovered it at the Nokomis 3.

Nokomis (1-2) fought back to within a point with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, the first coming on a 38-yard pass from Derek Amoroso to Ethan Curry. Amoroso followed with a one-yard TD run with 57 seconds to go, but the Warriors were stopped inches short of the game-winning two-pointer by the Raiders’ leading tackler, Brown.

Fryeburg 20, Wells 18

FRYEBURG – Preston Jones scored two rushing touchdowns and Sequoya Reynoso’s two-point conversion proved to be the difference as Fryeburg held off a late Wells rally to pull out a 20-18 win in Campbell Conference football action on Saturday.

Jones scored on a 20-yard run in the first quarter and a four-yard run in the second. David Smith had a five-yard TD run sandwiched in between. Reynoso ran in the two-point conversion on Jones’ second TD to give the Raiders (2-1) a seemingly comfortable 20-0 cushion at the half.

Wells (1-2) stormed back in the second half, however, with a four-yard TD run by Max Sheing in the third quarter and a 27-yard TD pass by Ryan Vartanian early in the fourth to make it 20-12.

Sheing closed it to 20-18 with a 12-yard scoring run with 2:37 left in the game.

But the Raiders stopped the Warriors on all three of their two-point run attempts and ran out the remaining time to maintain the lead.

Soccer
St. Dom’s 3, Poland 2

AUBURN – Junior midfielder Ben Randall scored a pair of goals to keep St. Dom’s undefeated with a 3-2 victory over Poland in WMC boys’ soccer action Saturday.

Freshman striker Jackson Erickson created second half opportunities for the Saints (6-0) by serving up a pair of assists, including one to Randall for the game-winner.

Junior midfielder MacKenzie Cook provided the Knights (0-6) with both of their tallies in the loss.

Hall-Dale 3, Monmouth 3

MONMOUTH – Hall-Dale and Monmouth played to a 3-3 tie in boys’ soccer action Saturday.

Jared Smith scored a pair of goals in the first half to lead the Mustaings to a 3-1 lead at the midpoint.

The Bulldogs battled back in the second half as Kyle Wright and Jim McCullum scored goals to knot up the contest at 3-3, where the game remained despite strong efforts by both squads.

Dirigo 5, Mtn. Valley 0

RUMFORD – Five different players scored as Dirigo cruised to a 5-0 shutout victory over Mountain Valley in MVC boys’ soccer action Saturday.

Sophomore striker Dylan Mawhiney notched the game’s opening goal for the Cougars (4-1) as they stormed out of the gate and controlled the ball well throughout.

The Cougars outshot Mountain Valley 21-6 and did a superb job of limiting the Falcons’ scoring opportunities.

Goalie Bryan Canwell turned back 16 shots for the Falcons (1-3), while Archie Ray made six saves in earn the win.
