LEWISTON – Lots to Gardens will hold its eighth annual Harvest Supper Celebration at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Knox Street Community Garden.
The end-of-the-season event is a time for community gardeners and neighbors to enjoy the harvests, eat lots of good food and celebrate the collective dedication to improving communities.
Lots to Gardens will use vegetables from its organic gardens to cook up a feast. Everyone is invited to bring a favorite dish to share. Lots to Gardens will provide vegetables if needed for recipes.
The Knox Street Community Garden, located at 61-63 Knox St., was Lots to Gardens’ first downtown community garden. With the help of many volunteers, the program’s Summer Youth Gardeners transformed a vacant lot into a thriving community space used by families to grow food for themselves and as a training garden for children and adults.
Based in 16 urban green spaces, Lots to Gardens’ community food projects include apartment-side and community gardens with more than 60 families and senior citizens; neighborhood veggie stands that provide affordable organic produce; weekly community meals and garden events; cooking and nutrition classes; activities at the Lewiston Farmers’ Market; and a youth empowerment program. Each year, the program grows and distribute thousands of pounds of organic food throughout the city.
