PORTER (AP) – Maine State Police on Sunday identified the victim in a weekend shooting as a 50-year-old New Jersey man who was visiting his cousin in this rural Oxford County town.

The victim, Lawrence Talarico of Ramsey, N.J., was in the home of 44-year-old Susan Talarico when the shooting occurred, spokesman Steve McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department said. Police seized a .22-caliber rifle that was used in the shooting, he said.

The shooting was reported at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department and Talarico’s body was found inside his cousin’s single-family home on Angel’s Rest Road when deputies arrived.

McCausland said one other person, a male friend of Susan Talarico’s who was not identified, was in the house when the shooting occurred. He said an argument apparently broke out, leading to violence.

No one had been charged as of Sunday afternoon. Detectives were awaiting autopsy results from the state medical examiner’s office and other information from their investigation before making any decision on charges, McCausland said.

The victim had arrived at his cousin’s home on Friday. Porter, a town of about 1,500 people, is west of Sebago Lake along the New Hampshire border.
