PARIS – An emergency executive session by the Board of Selectmen at 9 a.m. Tuesday will look into hiring an interim assessor.

Kevin McGillicuddy, the town’s previous assessor, resigned after the last selectmen’s meeting. McGillicuddy had recently completed a revaluation of the town’s properties in order to increase the ratio between assessed values and sale prices, saying it would allow residents and the town to fully benefit from exemptions.

The move was met with anger by attendees at the meeting, who said their taxes had risen drastically as a result.

Town Manager Sharon Jackson said the meeting will have only one item and consist of an interview with a potential interim assessor.

Because the item deals with a personnel issue, the selectmen will go into executive session and the meeting will not be open to the public. The selectmen may choose to add a second item to hire the candidate.

Jackson said she was unable to disclose who would be interviewed. She said the selectmen are only hiring an interim assessor for the moment, but the candidate could potentially be promoted to full time.

The meeting will be held at the Paris town office.
