Auburn – Robert R. Anctil, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 12, at The Odd Fellows’ Home in Auburn.
Born in Auburn on June 28, 1920, a son of the late Ernest J. and Alberta (Pelletier) Anctil. Robert grew up in Auburn and attended local schools.
He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to the end of World War II, and spent 22 months in the South Pacific.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 22.
On June 16, 1947, he married Rita Goulet, and they were married 52 years until her death in 1999.
He worked for Union Water Power Co. in Lewiston for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Holy Cross senior citizens, and a member of Holy Cross’ bible studies.
He is survived by his daughter, Madeleine (Mimi) and husband, Richard Roughgarden, of Palermo; a grandson, Todd Roughgarden and wife, Sarah, of Richmond; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Alcide and Bertram Anctil; sisters, Juliette Sargent, Germaine Drouin, Lucille Drouin and Constance Doyon; and a granddaughter, Cara Roughgarden in 1999.
