AUBURN – William J. “Bill” Hanlon, 77, of North Belfast Avenue, died Sept. 14, at Hospice House in Auburn following a brief illness.

He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 28, 1929, the son of John Hanlon and Julia (King) Hanlon.

Bill was a 1947 graduate of Edward Little High School, and continued his education at the University of Maine at Orono where he earned a master’s degree in education and a master’s degree in administration.

He was employed by the city of Augusta at Cony High School, where he was a teacher and coached freshman football and basketball for many years.

His wife, Margo (Chevalier) Hanlon, died on Jan. 17, 1996.

Surviving are two daughters, Elaine “Lainny” Beaudoin and her husband, Don, of Vassalboro, and Ann Hanlon, M.D., of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, John Hanlon of Medway, Mass., and Richard Hanlon of Lisbon; one sister, Delores Mottram of Auburn; five grandchildren, Kylie Beaudoin of Vassalboro, Kraig Beaudoin of New York, N.Y., Kristy Beaudoin of Boston, Mass., Seth Hayward of Wellesley, Mass., and Sarah Hayward of Clemson, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
