AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library will welcome Clint Willis, author of “The Boys of Everest: Chris Bonington and the Tragedy of Climbing’s Greatest Generation,” at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24.
Willis has published more than 40 books, including award-winning anthologies on such topics as adventure, war and politics. In “The Boys of Everest,” his latest book, he explores extreme mountaineering through the tragic story of Chris Bonington and his cohort of climbers who brought the sport to a new level.
“This book is genuinely exciting as Mr. Willis dramatically recounts the competition of egos and the close calls on treacherous Himalayan peaks … (and) grows increasingly somber as the toll grows,” wrote the Washington Post. “The story of the band of climbers known as Bonington’s Boys is a good and worthy one.”
Willis lives with his family in Maine and knows climbing through his own adventures scaling the bluffs along the state’s Atlantic coast.
