LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen elected David Lemire to serve as the board’s representative on the regional committee studying forming a school system with Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls on Monday.
The state has accepted letters of intent from the Jay School Department and SAD 36 directors to collect information on the partnership.
The next steps are to establish a committee and to develop a plan and submit it to the Maine Department of Education by Dec. 1.
In other matters, selectmen approved the Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group Promotion Committee’s request to redo the back side of the welcome sign at the gateway to town on Route 4.
Group member Heidi Wilde donated her time to repaint the sign that hangs on the front side. Selectmen had approved her spending up to $100 on paint.
Wilde said she only spent $50 on paint and the group came up with an idea for the back side. They could buy some medium density overlay plywood to fit the back side of the sign and paint it in a consistent manner to match the new banners the group bought to hang downtown on light poles. The banners feature the town tower clock and a welcome to Livermore Falls.
Ware-Butler agreed to sell the plywood to the group at a discount for $48, Wilde said.
They have enough paint left over to do the painting, she said.
Selectmen agreed to let them use the remainder of the money for the wood.
In other business, selectmen voted to:
• sell the 1985 Allis Chalmers lawn mower tractor for $1,855 to Gary Mitchell of Fayette, the only bidder.
• buy a new Kubota lawn mower tractor for $7,500 from R.S. Osgood & Sons of East Dixfield, the lowest of two bidders.
• accept the low bid for a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser for $19,645.30 including trade-in, from Quirk of Bangor. There were seven bids.
