Dear Sun Spots: I am looking for white pumpkins for a wedding. If anyone has information on where to buy them, it would be a huge help.
I can be reached via phone at 357-7192 or by e-mail at [email protected]. – No Name, No Town.
Answer: Sun Spots checked in with Sun Journal gardening columnist Jody Goodwin, who notes that Clark’s Farm Stand on Route 4, about ½ mile north on the right from the Upper Street and Route 4 intersection in Turner sometimes carries them. She also notes that you might find them at a nursery/farm stand on Route 26 near Oxford Plains Speedway along with pink pumpkins called Cinderella pumpkins. They are low and wide, like her coach. Goodwin advises that you call local and countywide farm stands and also check with Extension Service for pumpkin growers. They would be your best source for finding the white gourds. She notes that they are not that uncommon and you should be able to get some.
Another option is touching base with your local Co-operative Extension. Contact them at 24 Main St., Lisbon Falls, ME 04252-1505, 353-5550 or 800-287-1458 (in Maine), or via e-mail at [email protected].
Dear Sun Spots: I am desperately looking for a pair of old oars and pieces of an old boat of any kind for decorations for the Fryeburg Fair. We have decorated every year for over 10 years, and this year is no exception. However, we are lacking these two items and would be very grateful to anyone who might have any they’d be willing to share with us. This will be on view at the end of the fair, where the race horses are stabled. We need these items by next week. So if anyone can help, please call Rita at 353-4932. I will pick up within a reasonable distance. – Rita Sumner, Lisbon.

Dear Sun Spots: I am looking for places for senior citizens in the Winthrop/Monmouth area. I have an elderly mother who would like to join a senior citizens organization in order to meet people her own age. Are there any senior citizen clubs or organizations in these communities? She could possibly travel a little further, but right in the area would be better. Thank you for your help. – P.V., No Town.
