RUMFORD – Doris L. Broughton, 88, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, at her residence on the Hall Hill Road in South Rumford with her family by her side.

She was born in Rumford, on May 10, 1919, a daughter of Edward and Mary Leontine (Michaud) LaCroix, graduated from Stephens High School, Class of 1937, and from Vesper George School of Art in Boston, Mass.

She worked drawing blueprints at Chance-Voigt Aircraft in New Haven, Conn., and helped put her husband through medical school. She also got her private pilots license and then became a homemaker and later worked in sales for the Maine-Line Homes during which she designed her own home with her children. She was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church. She enjoyed reading, cooking, time with her pets, and especially loved her time with her family.

Survivors include sons, David Michael Broughton, and wife, Roxanne, of Wasilla, Alaska, and Peter Broughton, and wife, Ann, of Rumford; daughters, Candice Beams, and husband, Robert E., of Barrington, N.H., Shelley Broughton of Rumford and Deborah Broughton of Rumford; a sister, Yvette Raymond of Rumford; grandchildren, Sarah, Kenneth, Dustin, Chad, and Joseph Broughton of Rumford, Jeremy Broughton of Durham, N..H., Marc Broughton of Passumpsic, Vt., David Broughton of Dallas, Texas, and Robert “Reb” Beams, and wife, Jennifer, of Dover, N.H.; great-grandchildren, Alana Broughton of Brewer, Haley Broughton of Bangor and Trevor Beams of Dover, N.H.; nephews, John Raymond of Rumford and Maurice LaCroix of Peru; a niece, Merise Tiner of Poland Spring; and her beloved pets, especially her dog “Buddy.”

She was predeceased by a brother, Maurice LaCroix.
