Lisbon Town Council
Met: Tuesday Night
Garage vote
Scoop: Following a public hearing where there was no comment pro or con on the proposed public works garage bond issue, councilors voted to send the proposal to referendum on Nov. 6. Voters will be asked to approve a $1,355,000 bond to pay for the garage.
Curb machine
Scoop: N.A. Burkett Co. of Scarborough was awarded the contract to provide a public works curb machine on its low bid of $6,675 with trade. Three bids were received. Burkett was the only one to include a trade-in provision.
Garden park
Scoop: The Library Garden on Union Street was formally declared a town park.
Notary services
Issue: Until this time, the town has had no formal policy on notary public service fees.
Scoop: Councilors approved a written policy that each $5 fee collected will go into the miscellaneous revenue account.
BMX track
Issue: BMX Maine Bicycle Motorcross is looking into the possibility of using an area on Pinewoods Road, the former site of the town owned landfill as a BMX track.
Scoop: After a presentation, BMX Maine was told to meet with the recreation director to develop a proposal to bring back to the council. If councilors are agreeable the next step would be to take the proposal to the planning board.
Contract renewal
Issue: General Assistance Director Judy Hardy-Goddard resigned several weeks ago to take a similar position in Brunswick. The town later entered a 90 day contract with her to continue in that position locally on a part time basis.
Scoop: Interim town manager David Brooks reported that he and Hardy-Goddard are in agreement that the position has been working well. Following his recommendation councilors agreed to renew her contract for another 90 days.
Road work
Scoop: Brooks also reported work on the Pinewoods Road is under way and on schedule. A base cut was put down on Wednesday.
