NEW GLOUCESTER – Joan Benoit Samuelson, winner of the first Olympic women’s marathon, will speak at the opening ceremony for the Cancer Community Center’s “Hit the Trails” fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 23, at Pineland Farms.
Samuelson will send off cancer survivors who have come to celebrate life, hope and community and walk, run or stroll in honor, memory or support of each other and loved ones who have been affected by cancer.
There will be food, entertainment and family-friendly activities throughout the day. All ages and abilities are welcome. All money raised will support the programs that the center provides at no charge.
Registration will be held at 11:30 a.m. followed by the opening ceremony at 12:30 p.m. People will “Hit the Trails” at 1 p.m. with a cookout after and awards at 2:30 p.m.
