Bates College Museum of Art curator Anthony Shostak walks past one a painting titled ‘Manifest Destiny’ by New York artist Alexis Rockman. The painting, which depicts the Hudson River Valley and Manhattan after three millennia of global warming, is part of an exhibit called Green Horizons. The Bates exhibit features the work 17 artists, including two from Maine – Beth O’Halloran of Lewiston and Virginia Valdes of Sumner. The exhibit will be on display through Dec 9. A lecture by artist Agnes Denes will be held on September 28 at 7:00 p.m. Denes’ work made her a pioneer of ecological art. The lecture is free and open to the public.
