FARMINGTON – Denis Castonguay of East Wilton has accepted the job as Farmington’s public works director, pending selectmen’s confirmation, Town Manager Richard Davis said.

The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday before the special town meeting, Davis said. Castonguay is expected to start work Oct. 9.

He held a comparable position in Livermore Falls for six years as that town’s public works foreman, Davis said. Castonguay resigned from the job earlier this week.

A six-person committee unanimously recommended hiring Castonguay, Davis said. The job opened up after the death over the summer of longtime director Mitch Boulette.

Castonguay, 55, brings 40 years of experience to the post, Davis said. He was in charge of equipment maintenance and operation and budgeting for the department in Livermore Falls, headed the recycling department and supervised a five-man crew. He was also responsible for all safety training, Davis said.

Growing up in the Livermore Falls area, Castonguay said, he’s been in the road business all his life.

“I started on a plow truck at the age of 15,” he said, as he voiced his pleasure over the new opportunity.

He likes Farmington, and his wife works at the University of Maine at Farmington, which made the job here appealing, he said. Castonguay said he looks forward to meeting selectmen on Tuesday.

“He’s been a great asset to the town,” Livermore Falls Town Manager Martin Puckett said. “He’s done a lot of capital improvement planning, created multiyear plans for road construction and is always looking for cost-saving measures for the town.”

Livermore Falls will advertise for a replacement this week, Puckett said.
