RUMFORD – The annual Rumford Area Democratic Barbecue, hosted by Rep. John and Claire Patrick and Maurice and Theresa Fraser, took place at the Fraser home on Sept. 8, with Gov. John Baldacci, Attorney General Steve Rowe and Economic and Community Development Commissioner John Richardson as guest speakers.
Also in attendance were Rep. Charles Harlow of Portland, a Rumford native, Rep. Tim Carter, Rep. Stan Gerzofsky of Brunswick, County Treasurer Mary Ann Prue, Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant and Sen. Bruce Bryant. Andrea Quaid represented Congressman Mike Michaud, and Rep. Patrick spoke on behalf of Congressman Tom Allen.
Baldacci spoke of the time he has spent in the Rumford-Mexico area during his campaigns and greeted many individuals who worked on his campaigns for the last 14 years.
Rep. Patrick and Sen. Bryant introduced Sheryl Briggs of Mexico, candidate for House of Representatives in District 93 in the special election set for Nov. 6. Briggs outlined her plans for the campaign and ask for help.
County Chairwoman Cathy Newell gave an update on fall plans, including the Oxford and Fryeburg fairs and on the barbecue at the Maine Conservation School in August. She introduced Brandon Maheu, the field organizer for Oxford County, who will be working with the Oxford County Democrats in preparing for the 2008 caucus and campaign.
