FARMINGTON – An estimated 10,000 to 12,000 tickets have been sold so far, not including family memberships, to get into the Farmington Fair, Neal Yeaton, secretary of the Franklin County Agricultural Society said Thursday.
“The first of the week was down but (Wednesday) was a good day,” Yeaton said. “Attendance was up. We’ve had awesome weather for a change.”
It often rains on a couple days during fair week, but this year there’s been no rain.
Skies have been blue and sunny and temps comfortable.
“We’ve had a good turnout with people’s entries in the hall. They were good this year,” Yeaton said. “We made more room upstairs for the art and photography and we’ve filled them up.”
Apart from people showing sheep, numbers seem to be holding, he added.
They’re looking for a good week and hope attendance is good for the rest of it, Yeaton said.
Attendance on closing day – on Saturday – tends to make it or break it, he said.
“If we have good weather Saturday morning, people will come but if we get clouds or rain many people tend to go off and do something else,” Yeaton said.
The Red School House museum and that whole corner area of the fair that was developed over the past few years into a maple syrup museum, agricultural museum and blacksmithing exhibition have drawn a lot of compliments this year, he said.
“It’s gone over very well,” Yeaton said.
