FARMINGTON – “Arctic Tale” will be shown as a fundraiser for the Western Maine Audubon Society at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Narrow Gauge Cinema. The hour and a half film is rated PG and tickets are $5 a person.

“Arctic Tale” journeys to one of the most difficult places on earth for animals to make a living. The documentary studies polar bears and walruses in the Arctic, as global warming raises temperatures and changes the way they have done business since time immemorial.

The film follows two characters: Nanu, a newborn polar bear cub, and Seela, a newborn walrus.

The movie gives some attention to other northern ice forms, including jellyfish, birds and foxes who trail behind polar bears to eat the remains of their kills.

The society will also hold a field trip on lichens from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 6, at Kineowatha Park, Wilton. It will be led by Christine Blais, a local naturalist, whose interest is lichens and their habitats.

A hike up Bald Mountain in Weld will follow for those who are interested. Rain date is Oct. 13. It is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Fred Blonder at 645-2445.
