SOUTH PARIS – Arthur Richard Lemke, 80, of Oquossoc died Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris.
He was born on March 10, 1927, in Harrisburg, Pa., the son of William and Elizabeth (Jackson) Lemke.
In 1945, in New Jersey, Arthur married Isabelle Storicks, who passed away Feb. 24, 2003.
He was a police officer for more than 30 years in New Jersey before working for the town of Rangeley and for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
Arthur was also a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of the American Legion, and the Kemankeag Masonic Lodge #213 in Rangeley.
He was an active sportsman, who loved to trap, hunt, and fish. He also enjoyed playing cards.
He is survived by five sons, Jerry Lemke and his wife, Janet, of Arizona, Bill Lemke and his wife, Kyle, of North Carolina, Kenneth Lemke and his wife, Carol, of Rangeley, David Lemke of New Jersey, and Douglas Lemke and his wife, Bonnie, of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren,; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Mervin Lemke of New Jersey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife, Isabelle; his granddaughter, Megan; and his brother, David.
