Two fatal shootings by Maine police during separate incidents in Waldoboro and Rumford during the weekend are being investigated by state attorney general’s office and state police.

In Waldoboro, a local police officer shot an 18-year-old man following a traffic stop and confrontation at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday, said Brian MacMaster, director of investigations for the attorney general’s office. Details of what happened were not complete Sunday, he said.

MacMaster said Waldoboro Officer Zack Curtis stopped a car driven by a juvenile. Eighteen-year-old Gregori Jackson of Whitefield, who was riding in the car, “got out and engaged the officer physically,” said MacMaster.

Jackson then ran into a wooded area with Curtis in pursuit and a physical struggle between the two broke out. MacMaster said Jackson was shot during the struggle.

The two juveniles were in the car in which Jackson had been riding, but it appeared they did not know Jackson well. The shooting is under investigation by MacMaster, state police and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

On Saturday, Scott White, 46, was shot and killed by a state trooper following a seven-hour standoff at his former wife’s home in Rumford. White was shot and killed late Saturday afternoon as he left the home and was confronted by the state police tactical team. He was pronounced dead at Rumford Hospital.
