FARMINGTON – Dick Deery, 66, of Rangeley, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 21, surrounded by his loving family and friends at the Franklin Memorial Hospital, after fighting a courageous battle with multisystem atrophy.

He was born Sept. 30, 1940, in Medford, Mass., a son of Frank and Irene (Rood) Deery.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served his country for four years after graduating from high school. On May 31, 1963, he married Gail Crocker in Scarborough.

His working career was spent with UPS, which consisted of more than 20 years of service. He and Gail retired to Rangeley when he was 49, where they worked at Saddleback in the winter and painted houses in the summer. Each winter they enjoyed South Carolina visiting with family and friends and spending time on the beach.

A lover of all things athletic, he enjoyed playing baseball, softball, golf, skiing, hiking, canoeing and running. A great motivator of people both in his personal life and professionally, he made many wonderful friendships over the years, which were very dear to him and kept at the center of his life. In his retirement, he enjoyed being a Mason and involvement with the Shrine Kora Highlander Bag Pipers.

He was a hard working man who will forever be remembered for his love of country, his wife, daughters, grandchildren and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Gail of Rangeley; two daughters, Holly Deery, and her husband, Guy Langevin, of Scarborough and Heidi Deery and Curt Haley of Rangeley; a sister, Sandra Larsen, and her husband, Don, of Groveland, Mass.; grandchildren, Cole, Hudson, Connor, Seve and Emma.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Dick’s family would like to thank the staff of Franklin Memorial Hospital and especially the wonderful people of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice who were of great care and support.
