DIXFIELD – Superintendent Tom Ward told the SAD 21 board Monday night that Donald L. Hebert, a district employee, remains on paid administrative leave while an investigation continues into a charge that he sexually assaulted a Mountain Valley High School student.

Hebert, 33, of Rumford was arrested Sept. 14 by Lt. Mark Cayer of the Rumford Police Department. Hebert is a baseball coach and education technician at SAD 21 and was a junior varsity basketball coach at neighboring SAD 43 during the 2006-2007 school year.

Ward said he plans to interview Hebert as part of the district’s investigation.

“I’m trying to set up an interview by the end of the week,” Ward said. “We want to hear his side of the story.”

Ward has been in constant contact with attorney Harry Pringle of of Drummond, Woodsum and MacMahon law firm of Portland.

“We want to give the employee due process. Once the interview in completed, we will decide the next step,” Ward said.

Cayer said at the time of the arrest that he believes the violations occurred throughout the past year. The age of the student was listed as under 18.
