FARMINGTON – A judge set $10,000 cash bail or $100,000 worth of real estate Wednesday for an Industry man accused of climbing through a window into a residence and attempting to sexually assault a teenager in her bedroom.
Stephen Wing, 30, made an initial appearance in 12th District Court on charges of burglary, attempted gross sexual assault, aggravated criminal trespassing, unlawful sexual touching and assault.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Detective David St. Laurent arrested Wing on Tuesday after the parents of the girl reported the incident to police Monday.
Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson said that Wing, a family acquaintance, stopped by the residence Sunday morning and learned the girl was sick.
Her parents later left the home after locking the door to get her prescription medication, he said.
They were on their way to the drug store when they remembered they had forgotten the prescription and returned home, Robinson said.
The parents could see that a chair had been put under a window outside their home and could hear the victim yelling, Robinson said.
The girl’s father pulled Wing, who was on top of his daughter, off of her, he said.
The parents told police that Wing had kissed their daughter and fondled her.
The victim told police she had been sleeping and awoke to find Wing on top of her kissing her and tickling her feet, according to an affidavit filed with the court by St. Laurent. The girl said she attempted to push him off her, the affidavit said.
Robinson asked the court to set a high bail, for the safety of the victim and her family, of $25,000 cash or $100,000 real estate surety with bail conditions that include no direct or indirect contact with the victim or her family and not to return their house.
The lawyer representing Wing for the day, Carl Elhd, argued that the contact was consensual.
“It was merely a kiss,” Elhd said.
Elhd requested bail be set at $10,000 cash or $50,000 worth of real estate.
Robinson rebutted the claim that the contact was consensual, noting the door to the house was locked and Wing climbed in the window.
Judge Valerie Stanfill set bail at $10,000 cash or $100,000 real estate surety.
A hearing date was set for 8:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Franklin County Superior Court, which could change if Wing is indicted.
