In the latest of my many weekly visits to the Veterans Memorial Park, and as the veteran responsible for having the Heritage Park renamed to the Veterans Memorial Park (one of my dearest accomplishments), I fail to see or understand why the Sun Journal, a highly respected newspaper, should apologize concerning the photo caption of “Where the dogs pee” (Sept. 2).

The issue that should be addressed is, if a dog was near the monument, whether it was on a leash or under control by his or her owner at all times. If the dog is controlled, it would not pee on the monument.

I’m grateful for the continued respect the Sun Journal shows to all veterans.
