LISBON FALLS – Lisbon Adult Education has openings in classes starting in October.
“Accounting I,” starting Tuesday, Oct. 9, will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A six-week “Introduction to Excel” class, covering all the basics of using the spreadsheet program, will start Tuesday, Oct. 2, meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. “Protecting Your Home Computer” will be taught by the technology coordinator for the school district, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, starting Oct. 11.
A series of quilting classes will be offered. A free motion stitching class will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 2. Techniques will include stipple, meander and combining simple motifs to create complex patterns. A “Trapunto by Machine” class will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
A two-week Christmas ornament wall hanging class will start Tuesday, Oct. 16. A holiday buckets class will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 6. On Tuesday, Nov. 13, a snippets class will meet where students will learn how to make a small themed wall quilt using pieces of fabric.
A two-week open sewing clinic will be held starting Tuesday, Nov. 20, where students may finish projects and get advice and help. All quilting classes will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Classes are open to beginners and more experienced quilters.
A “Painting in Oils” class will start on Tuesday, Oct. 2, for eight weeks from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Drawing skills are not necessary.
An eight-week beginning knitting class will start on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For those who know ho to knit, a double knit jiffy mitten class will start on Thursday, Oct. 4, for five weeks from 6 to 8 p.m. Basic knowledge of knitting and purling are required.
A family fall walk in Beaver Park will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. Participants should meet at the entrance to Beaver Park, which is located off of Cotton Road.
A free workshop on home gun safety will be taught by an officer from the Lisbon Police Department from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17. Advanced registration is required.
A series of decorative painting classes will be offered. The first class will begin Wednesday, Oct. 2, to make a folk art angel. Materials will be provided. Samples of art projects are on display in the Adult Education office in Lisbon High School.
Personal finance workshops will be offered free throughout October. Advanced registration in necessary. The workshops include: Wednesday, Oct. 2, “Strong Women, Powerful Financial Strategies”; Wednesday, Oct. 10, “Planning Your Retirement Paycheck”; Tuesday, Oct. 23, “All-Weather Strategies for Stock Investing”; Tuesday, Oct. 30, “Investing in Bonds for Income and Diversification”; Tuesday, Oct. 24, “Learning the New IRA/401 K Strategies.” All workshops will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Family craft workshops designed for children between the ages of 4 through 12 will be held throughout the fall with holiday themes. A Halloween crafts night will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22. It will include ideas for parties, costumes and makeup. Participants will make a mask and learn new games. Advanced registration is required.
