CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Two New Hampshire police officers killed in the line of duty have been honored Sunday with congressional law enforcement awards.

New Hampshire’s bipartisan congressional delegation on Sunday announced posthumous career service awards for Manchester Officer Michael Briggs and Franconia Cpl. Bruce McKay.

“The 2007 New Hampshire Law Enforcement Awards honor Corporal Bruce McKay and Officer Michael Briggs and pay tribute to the dedicated men and women in public safety who make personal sacrifices to keep our homes and communities safe,” Sen. John Sununu, R-N.H., said in a statement.

Briggs was shot and killed while on bicycle patrol on Oct. 16, 2006. His alleged shooter, Michael Addison, is charged with capital murder and could face the death penalty if convicted. McKay was shot and ran over May 11 during a traffic stop. His shooter, Liko Kenney, was shot and killed moments later by a passer-by.

Congressional law enforcement awards for dedication and professionalism, going beyond the call of duty and other service were awarded to 14 others.

“Their extraordinary bravery deserves respect and recognition, and that is what these awards are about,” said Rep. Paul Hodes, D-N.H.
