PUTTSTOWN, Pa. (AP) – A Vermont man has drowned during a church outing at Raystown lake in central Pennsylvania.
Authorities say they found the body of 23-year-old Benjamin Carr of Montpelier just after 8 p.m. Friday.
Search crews and dive teams worked for more than eight hours before finding Carr’s body.
Huntingdon County Deputy Coroner Timothy Skipper says Carr’s death was an accident.
Carr was staying at Heritage Cove Campground with a church group when he tried to swim across the southern portion of the lake, which is about 100 yards wide. Witnesses say Carr tired and yelled for help about halfway across, but a bystander was unable to save him.
