PARIS – A registered Maine Guide from Norway pleaded guilty to a hunting violation and was fined Monday in Oxford County Superior Court.

Christopher P. Cobbett, 32, pleaded guilty to trapping a bear on Sept. 24, 2006, in Upton after killing or registering one during an open season. Other charges of trapping without written consent, failing to visit traps in an organized town and exceeding the bag limit on bears were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

Cobbett was fined $1,000.

According to the Web site for Northwoods Adventure TV, Cobbett is a registered Maine Guide and a staff writer for Northwoods Sporting Journal.

In late 2005, Cobbett was found guilty of abusing property while hunting and was fined $400. The offense occurred on Sept. 30, 2005.

He is employed by SAD 17 as a social studies teacher at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris.
