AUGUSTA – Central Maine Power Co. is warning contractors, excavators and anyone performing an excavation with mechanical equipment in any community served by the utility in Franklin County that its system to identify underground power lines and facilities was flawed between Sept. 21 and Oct. 1.

“Anyone holding a Dig Safe ticket that was requested between those dates should not proceed with any excavation on the assumption that the CMP markings are complete with regard to underground electrical facilities,” the company stated in a release issued at about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday.

Those with tickets issued on those dates are being asked to request new ones before doing any excavations.

Excavation contractors working in CMP-served communities in Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Waldo counties were also being warned not to dig if they had tickets issued during those time frames

Persons holding a Dig Safe ticket issued within the time period for these counties should contact Dig Safe at 1 (888) DIG SAFE or 1 (888) 344-7233.
