Peru – Gregory K. Barrett, 59, died Oct. 1, at his mother’s summer home on Worthley Pond in Peru with his loving and caring family at his side, after a courageous five year battle against cancer.

Gregory was born in Rumford on April 25, 1948. He graduated from Mexico High School in 1966. He then obtained an associate degree in civil engineering from the University of Maine at Orono in 1968.

He lived in Colorado for the last 39 years. He was in charge of operations in Durango for FCI Constructors Inc., and he was also on the board of directors and an officer of the company. He was on the board of directors of the Bank of Durango and was an active member of the Elks.

He belonged to other civic organizations and he sponsored many activities for the children in Durango.

He enjoyed hiking, fishing, skiing and hunting.

He is survived by his mother, Bertha “Betty” Barrett; brothers Timothy and his wife, Linda, of Apex, N.C., Walston “Wally” and his wife, Doris; two sisters, Cynthia McCaffrey and her husband, Harley, and Kathy, all of Mexico; a nephew, C.V. Barrett and his wife, Chrystal, and their children of Pinehurst, N.C.; nephews Montana and Jeremy Barrett; a niece Jessica; and nephew John McCaffrey, all of Mexico.

Greg was predeceased by his father, Walston “Wally” Barrett in 1996; and his brother Mark D. Barrett, in 2001.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Tammy Beam of Androscoggin Home and Hospice for all the care and support given to Greg and the family, also to Shane Haas of Colorado for being such a good friend to Greg, and a friend and support to the family.
