MINOT – Lorraine (Precopio) McClure, 81, who owned and operated La Mode’s Beauty Shop in Lewiston for more than 20 years, has died of cancer Oct. 2 at her home in Minot.
She was born in Auburn, June 9, 1926, the seventh child of Thomas and Celia (Fortier) Goulette. In 1974 she began working as a medical assistant to Dr. Wilfred Cloutier, a surgeon at St. Mary’s Hospital, and remained with him for the next 17 years.
During her spare time she volunteered at food banks, Central Maine General Hospital and at local election precincts in New Auburn.
Through her religious affiliations in Maine, Florida and South Carolina, she helped send missionaries to developing countries and food and medical supplies to disaster locations throughout the world. She also supported the Smile for a Child Christian program and many others that are aimed at helping children with surgical needs and by building schools and hospitals in underdeveloped countries.
She is survived by her husband Harold; her daughters, Judith Valentine and husband, Barry, and Linda Ellsworth and husband, William; her son, Ralph Precopio Jr. and his fiancee, Debbie Morin; her sisters, Darielle Sabine and Gloria Levesque; and a brother, Marcel Goulette. She is also survived by four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Jeff Dow, Heather and Jennifer Precopio and Rachel White, who has two children, Victoria and Conner.
