ORONO (AP) – A University of Maine football player has been suspended for one game after being charged with assault. Anthony Cotrone, 22, a running back for the football team, was suspended for violating the student athlete code of conduct, a university spokesman said.

The arrest stems from a confrontation Cotrone had with another man on Friday. The incident is also under review by the dean of students and the Penobscot County district attorney. In a separate case, assistant UMaine football coach Michael Winslow was charged with operating under the influence on Sept. 23.

Two other athletes, who play on the football and basketball teams, are charged with misuse of identification and receiving stolen property in connection with a debit card theft, according to Orono police.
