Chapter Martel

LEWISTON – Chapter Martel, Association Canado-Americaine, will meet at 1:15 Monday, Oct. 8, at Frye School Retirement Hall, 140 Ash St., rear entrance. An optional meal is offered at noon at Dudley’s, Ramada Inn.

President Cecile Paradis said the yearly collection of canned and nonperishable food for the needy is held this month and she asked members to bring the items to the meeting.

Club speaker

AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston Art and Literature Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at the Woman’s Literary Union.

Anne Stauffer Behnke, a retired teacher from the Auburn school system, will present a comparison of “China Today and China 20 Years Ago.”

Behnke spent a year in China (1987-1988) teaching English at Huaibei Teacher’s College in Anhui province. In the spring of 2006, she returned and spent three weeks traveling through China. Behnke observed many changes. Her presentation will explore those changes and reveal a new emerging China.

Hostesses will be Claire Roger Anctil, Mary Godin, Louise Twaddle and Mary Bell.

Talk on hike

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Historical Society will have as its speaker at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, George Janosco of Lisbon, who will give a presentation on his “Hike up Kilimanjaro with Some Friends.” The meeting will take place at the Lisbon Historical Society Archive Museum, MTM Center, 18 School St., Rooms 5 and 6. The public is welcome, admission is free.

OES visitation

MECHANIC FALLS – Dwinal Chapter 28, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Masonic Hall, 474 South Main St. Rebecca Bibber, worthy grand matron, will be present for the chapters’ official visitation. All members of the order are invited.

MS meeting

Richelieu Club

AUBURN – The Richelieu Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Rolandeau’s Restaurant, 775 Washington St.

President Daniel Isabell said this will be the first official visit from Regional Governor Roger Lacerte. Lacerte has been a frequent visitor to the area as owner of a French library in Manchester, N.H.
