LEWISTON – The Alzheimer’s Association 2007 Lewiston/Auburn Memory Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. today at Pettengill School. Walkers can show up and walk. Pre-registration is not required.

The walk raises awareness and funds to support local programs for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, as well as for their families and caregivers. A total of 14 walks will be held throughout the state on Saturday. This year’s statewide fundraising goal is $350,000.

All funds raised though statewide Memory Walks remain in Maine to support the 30,000 individuals, families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Nationwide, Memory Walk is the largest fundraising event dedicated to helping support those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

It is held in 600 communities in the United State, and has raised more than $200 million for programs and services to support individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.
