HARRISON – Clifford Hiram Hemingway Jr., 68, of Harrison, died Thursday, Oct. 4, at home with his family, after a battle with cancer.

He was born in South Paris on Feb. 5, 1939, to Clifford H. Sr. and Dianna Poirier Hemingway. He had worked for C.B. Cummings, A.C. Lawrence Tannery, ABC Rubbish Inc. and several local shoe shops through the years.

He had many ventures of self-employment: welding, repairing small engines and woodworking as well. He was semi-retired due to a back injury in 1977, and spent the rest of his life hunting, fishing and enjoying time with his family.

He was an avid outdoorsman, spending nearly all his free time in the outdoors. It was his passion and wish that all his sons and grandchildren learn to hunt, fish and love being outside. He especially loved hunting deer and fishing at Seboomook Dam in Moosehead, where he just recently was bragging about the trout he caught there this past June.

He was a life member of the NRA, a member of the Norway/Paris Fish and Game, Knights of Pythias Lodge and any club or association that promoted outdoor recreation.

He loved bluegrass music and played bass in the family band. up until his illness one year ago. He prided himself greatly for teaching his sons to play instruments when they were just young kids.

He still followed his sons around New England right up until two weeks ago to watch them play. He could fix anything with just the bare necessities and took pride in teaching his sons all the trades. He also enjoyed farming and helped Pearl and Margaret raise goats right up until a few months ago.

He is survived by his mother, Dianna Hemingway of Harrison; three sons, Dana and his wife, Brendi, Dale and his wife, Tina, and Clifford (Kip) and his wife, Becky, all of Harrison; five grandchildren, Renee, Nichole, Dalton, Dionne and Timothy; three siblings, Barry of Harrison, Lorraine Nadeau of Oxford and Cynthia and her husband, Russell Curtis, of Harrison; his former wife, dear friend and mother of his sons, Pearl Hemingway of Harrison; dear friend of the family, Margaret May of Harrison; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Clifford Sr. in 1992.
