This is in response to the Cal Thomas column printed Sept. 29. He is unbelievable … an incredible liar.

For one thing, there are no “liberal” colleges. Is there a “liberal” way to teach English, calculus, chemistry or physics? Furthermore, a college faculty is a group of people united by one issue: parking.

I doubt Thomas’ statements about his experience at Smith College. Perhaps there were gay students sitting together in the front row kissing, but I doubt that they were being very disruptive.

When conservatives such as Thomas or John Leo stand behind a podium to spout forth their lies and hate, they should be shouted down. These people are intellectually dishonest and should never be invited to speak in a place where truth and knowledge are held in high esteem.

Conservatives have never believed in free speech for everyone. When this nation was formed, conservatives were against the Bill of Rights being added to the Constitution, so for conservatives to demand equal time on campus for their lies and hate speech is disingenuous.

For too long, conservatives have been allowed to control the debate by baiting-and-switching on the issues. Conservatives such as Thomas are not intellectually honest, and their speeches do not promote knowledge or understanding. They certainly have no place in the area of higher education.
