TOGUS – Henry Grant “Bud” Leonard Jr., 88, of Norway died Saturday, Oct. 6, at VAMROC, Togus.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Sept. 10, 1919, the son of Henry G. and Bertha Harrison Leonard Sr. He graduated from Norway High School and the University of Maine, with a forestry degree.
He served as town manager of Norway in 1970. He was also a pilot for Continental Airlines and was mayor of Andover, N.J., and operated an oil and hardware store in Andover, N.J.
He was a Delaware bridge commissioner in New Jersey and had been a bus driver for various companies before starting his own company, Leonard Lines, in 1982. He retired in 1992.
Grant faithfully served his country in the Army during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient at the Battle of the Bulge and was a prisoner of war. He was a member of Stone-Smart American Legion, Floyd-Harlow VFW, Disabled American Veterans and was past commander of Purple Heart 2699. He was also a member of the Masonic order in Andover, N.J. On April 17, 1982, he married Rosemarie Hitzler.
Survivors include his wife of Norway; a son, Grant Leonard of Arizona, a son, Duke Detlefsen and his wife, Lisa, of Norway; a daughter, Adrienne Detlefsen of Norway; and a son, Douglas Detlefsen and his wife, Lynn, of Berlin, Conn.; three granddaughters, Allyson Leonard of New Jersey, and Brittney and Ashley Detlefsen of Norway; a sister, Kate Attwill of Clearwater, Fla.; and several nieces; and nephews.
