The landmark windmill at Dutch Treat on routes 2 and 4 in Wilton is getting a face lift. Charles Gulick of Mercer puts new shingles on the dining area Monday. Owner Sharon Rainey, whose father’s company, K & H Foster of Wilton, designed the windmill after those he saw on a trip to Holland, has been helping Gulick with the renovation and painting. The Dutch Treat just celebrated 45 seasons, Rainey said. The modified A-frame was added to the ice cream and take-out stand in 1965 with the windmill added in 1966, she said.
