KINGFIELD – Three boys face criminal mischief charges in connection with more than $1,800 in damage on Main and Depot streets early Saturday, Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandy Burke said Monday.

The boys between the ages of 12 and 15, two from Kingfield and one from Avon, are accused of slashing 12 tires on vehicles, cutting a post office flagpole rope and ruining flower boxes about 1 a.m. that morning, Burke said.

He had received information on the vandalism and conducted an investigation, talking to the boys and their parents as part of the probe.

Most of the tires slashed were on guests’ vehicles parked at Herbert Hotel, he said, although some tires were also slashed at the Camden National Bank parking lot.

“It’s unusual for an occurrence of vandalism on Main Street or any place in Kingfield,” the deputy said.

The boys will each be issued a summons and will appear in juvenile court.

Burke plans to ask the court for restitution from the kids and ask that they do public service in the community, he said.

The restitution will be at least $700 a piece, he said, and he wants the money to come from the kids, and not their parents.

Herbert Hotel representatives reimbursed guests who had their tires cut the cost of their stay at the hotel and paid for one vehicle to be towed to Farmington, Burke said.
