OXFORD – Bruce Carleton True Sr., 82, of Oxford, formerly of Salisbury, Mass., died Saturday, Oct. 6, in South Paris. He was the loving husband for 60 years of Barbara (Jones) True.

Born in Newburyport, Mass., May 22, 1925, Bruce was the son of the late Herbert and Alice (Dow) True and had attended Newburyport schools.

Bruce entered the military during World War II, serving with the United States Navy from May 24, 1943, until his honorable discharge on March 4, 1946, as seaman first class. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Medal with one star, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, and was a life member of the VFW Post 9209, and past commander of the American Legion, Salisbury Post No. 309.

After concluding his military service, Bruce returned to Massachusetts, settling in Salisbury, where he started his own plumbing business. He worked hard and often times long hours, but always made time for his family. Bruce was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. As a founding member of the Northeast Baseball League, Bruce also managed the Salisbury Merchants.

In addition to his beloved wife; he is survived by three children, Linda Cordeau of Haverhill, Darlene Toomey and Bradley True, both of Florida; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Murl True of Florida; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bruce was preceded in death by his son, Bruce C. True Jr.. “Biff”; as well as Herbert True Jr., brother; and Virginia Wallace, sister.
