AUGUSTA (AP) – The state supreme court has decided to hear an appeal of the sentence for Jon Dilley, the Pittston man who was found guilty of manslaughter in the shooting deaths of his mother and estranged wife in 2004.

Dilley was convicted by a jury and sentenced last year to 60 years in prison. Superior Court Justice Donald Marden sentenced Dilley, who is now 54, to two consecutive 30-year terms, the maximum allowed.

He was charged in the deaths of his mother, Sarah Murray, who was 71, and his wife, Chevelle “Chellie” Calloway, who was 41.

In his appeal, Dilley says the judge should have barred testimony from a co-worker about conversations with Dilley two years before the killings, and should not have allowed a statement by a domestic-violence group during sentencing.

The appeal also says the sentence was improperly calculated and that Dilley shouldn’t have received consecutive sentences.
