PORTLAND (AP) – The DeLorme map company in Yarmouth expects to save $60,000 by installing energy-efficient lights for its giant spinning globe.

DeLorme partnered with Efficiency Maine to replace the lights as part of the “Change a Light, Change the World Campaign.” The national movement is aimed at reducing pollution by making use of energy efficient lighting.

Maine Public Utilities Commission Chairman Kurt Adams flipped the switch on the new lights Wednesday night. All told, DeLorme changed 229 light bulbs and switched from 100-watt flood lights to 26-watt compact fluorescent lights.
