CARTHAGE – The Carthage Historical Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the museum building.
Following a potluck supper, the speaker, Vance Child of Falls Taxidermy and Museum, will show examples of his work.
Child owns the museum on Route 4 in East Dixfield displaying the animals in their natural setting.
The animals have been found dead and brought in for mounting.
All are invited to attend the supper and program.

RUMFORD – The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the municipal hall auditorium, upper floor. The program will feature a presentation on Dr. James William Elliott, Rumford native who was named “Champion Card Manipulator of the World” by the card manipulators of Boston.

School conferences
DIXFIELD – Dirigo High School will hold teacher/parent/student conferences from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 17 and 18. The conferences will take 15 minutes.
Those who need additional time or cannot make one of the nights may make an appointment with the teacher at a more convenient time.

Program opened
PARIS – A Sexual Assault Response Teams of Oxford County program, “Drug Facilitated Sexual Assaults,” at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, has been opened up to counselors, substance abuse and other professionals who might benefit from being better informed about the topic.
The presenter, Dr Karen Simone, is a toxicologist with the New England Poison Center.
She will address why drug use is chosen by offenders, symptoms, common drugs used, what a lab can/can’t do regarding evidence and give prevention tips.
The presentation will be held at the South Paris Fire Dept. Those interested in attending should notify REACH.
