This is in response to Judson Duncan’s letter, published Oct. 7.

There certainly is a “liberal” way to teach physics. The professor shuts the book, and the door, and delivers a wild-eyed, spluttering anti-Bush tirade to his captive audience (of course, in the name of academic freedom).

Which colleges has Duncan visited recently?

Some “conservatives” objected to the 1st Amendment so, more than 200 years later, Duncan would deny freedom of speech to any similar disingenuous purveyors of hate. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad perhaps? Such “discrimination” could be taught only at a liberal college.

Conservatives control the debate? What newspaper has Duncan been reading? Maybe a student paper from one of those liberal universities. But that great new oxymoron, the Fairness Doctrine, will teach Cal Thomas a thing or two.

I would advise Duncan never to stray to the right of those who really control the debate. When they shout him down, to whom will he complain?

And I would advise him to heed Thomas Jefferson: “I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.”
