OXFORD – An 18-year-old Oxford resident was arrested Friday on a charge of trafficking in marijuana, a felony because he lives close to the Oxford Elementary School.

Samuel R. Cronin of 54 Pleasant St. was the subject of a monthlong investigation by the drug investigator shared by Oxford, Norway and Paris police departments, Oxford chief Jon Tibbetts said.

“This is part of our Norway, Paris, Oxford Resident Drug Agent program,” he said.

Members of the three departments as well as the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Maine State Police converged on the home to serve the search warrant, which Tibbetts said is routine in such circumstances.

Inside the residence officers found marijuana plants and “evidence of drug trafficking,” Tibbetts said. There were no weapons, he added.

Cronin was booked at the Oxford County Jail in Paris at 6:21 p.m. on charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs and violation of bail. He is being held without bail, a corrections officer said late Friday night.

Tibbetts said the investigation is continuing.
