LEWISTON – Merle Willis Webber and Muriel Morin Webber of Lewiston celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary recently, surrounded by many family members and friends.
They were honored with a limousine ride and a dinner party at Rolandeau’s Restaurant. In attendance were their five children and many of their families. The children are Gary and Bonnie Webber of New Gloucester, David Webber and his friend, June Cyr, of Greene, Gail and William Sproul of Cumberland, John Webber and Cathy Conlow of Orono, and Jim and Lee Webber of Turner.
Many grandchildren were able to attend, including Hayley Webber and her husband, Peter Welles, Christine Webber and friend, Roland Dumont, Keith and Ann Sproul, Anna and Daniel Webber, and Bobbi Brooks with friend, Jim Jordan. Great-grandchildren Brock Boutin and Elizabeth Sproul also celebrated with them.
Others attending were Yvette Arnold, Pauline Hawkins, Glenys Hubbard and bridesmaid Muriel Violette and daughter, Nancy.
The couple was married at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston on Sept. 13, 1947. Mrs. Webber was a registered nurse and Mr. Webber was just returning from serving in the Air Corps when they were married.
They moved to New Jersey, when Mr. Webber worked for S.S. Kresge, but returned to Maine and settled with their growing family in Lisbon Falls, where Mr. Webber owned and operated a Ben Franklin Store for many years. They eventually moved back to Lewiston in 1965 and have lived there since.
In recent years, they have particularly enjoyed trips to Florida and attending the weddings of their grandchildren. They spend much time caring for their home, gardening and enjoying their pool. The house is always welcoming for friends and family to drop in. In the summer, the family is fortunate to be able to gather often at Small Point for cribbage and summer sun. They are longtime members of St. Patrick Church.
