WEST PARIS – Doris Mae (Lint) Picard, 89, of Unity Plantation, passed away at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris, on Friday, Oct. 12.
Doris was born in Mapleton on Dec. 6, 1917, the daughter of Charles Frederick Lint and Mildred Mae (Rand) Lint. She grew up in Mapleton where she attended Mapleton schools. During her teenage years, she helped take care of her younger siblings.
Through her early years, she provided home health care, which included the delivery of dozens of babies. During World War II, she moved to Portland with her husband, Elzear “Pat,” where Doris ran a boarding house and helped take care of the soldiers that were coming into port. In the mid-1940s, she moved to Unity, and they bought a large farm where they lived and raised their family.
Doris enjoyed spending time in her garden, baking and knitting socks for her grandkids. She always loved to have her family around. She looked forward to Sunday dinners and the holidays. Grammie’s house was the gathering place for dozens of people.
When she was in her early 80s, Doris volunteered at the Winslow Place Retirement Home in Winslow, where she cooked for the elderly residents. This was a highlight for her in her elderly years.
Doris is survived by her children, oldest son, Charles Picard of Unity, Andrew Picard and his wife, Sharron, of Clinton, Linda (Picard) Wiggin and her husband, Lyle, of Bryant Pond, Edward Picard and his wife, Elena, of Unity, and Michael Picard of Unity.
