LEWISTON – No Name Pond’s staunchest defender was honored recently with a special community service award by the city of Lewiston.
City Administrator James Bennett gave the award to Jean Raymond, a member of the No Name Pond Watershed Association and a supporter of the city’s Public Works Department.
“She’s kind of adopted the Public Works Department as an unofficial den mother,” said Dot Perham-Whittier, city community relations coordinator. “She helps them cook, brings in desserts and other stuff.”
Raymond helped lead the effort to get a septic pump system installed at No Name Pond in 2001. The pump pulls sewage from neighborhood septic tanks to a large leach field away from the pond. It is designed to keep the pond’s water healthier.
“She’s just such a force for good with No Name Pond,” Perham-Whittier said. “She’s shown unwavering support for the environment and for the community and we wanted to reward her.”
