I fail to see the point of the Sun Journal editorial of Oct. 10, which was critical of a homeowners association in Stockton Springs for wanting to rename Squaw Point to Squall Point. According to my dictionary, the word squall means: 1. A sudden violent gust of wind.
2. a commotion.
3. a scream or cry. v.i. cry violently.
Squall is not derived from or related to squaw. Had the homeowners chosen to re-name their neighborhood Stormy Point, would that name be equally offensive?
